Neighbor Loaves is a national initiative by the Artisan Grain Collaborative, launched locally by Community Wellness Project to highlight the importance of resilient regional food systems, and to
support area farmers, bakers, and eaters. Customers who purchase a Neighbor Loaf have an opportunity to help nourish their community.

  1. You purchase Neighbor Loaves from participating bakeries.

  2. Bakers source grain from local sustainable farms and bake Neighbor
Loaves which contain at least 50% locally grown stonemilled flour.

  3. One loaf goes home with you, and a second loaf is donated to local
programs that promote food access and community nutrition.

Neighbor Loaves was piloted in spring of 2020 with funding from the Jefferson Community Foundation’s Covid-19 Response Fund, and in partnership with the Community Wellness Project, Chimacum School District, and Pane d’Amore bakery. Neighbor Loaves use 60% Jefferson County grown wheat from Finnriver Grain, and an “affordable, approachable, accessible” whole wheat bread recipe created by the WSU Bread Lab Collective.
