The Chimacum FEED Truck, where students get real-world, hands-on experience with Food Education & Enterprise Development

Chimacum Junior/Senior High School offers two food & farm-related Career & Technical Education courses: Horticulture, and Culinary Arts. Students who have rich, meaningful, real-world experiences learn best; as such, our Horticulture & Culinary Arts instructors have been crafting a vision for school-based, community-connected enterprises to strengthen students’ sense of place and give them a taste of entrepreneurship.

In 2023, our team brought the dream of a school-based food truck at the Chimacum High School (CHS) to reality. The FEED Truck brings together students who are interested in learning culinary skills while also being exposed to real-world job opportunities and expectations. The truck serves a variety of craft sandwiches, soups and snacks at school and community events. Supported by the culinary arts teacher and a food truck manager, the students of CHS support the truck by helping prepare food and menus for service and by getting aboard the truck and making sandwiches and serving customers.

We anticipate that many of the students who complete these CTE courses will not choose a career in the food and farm sectors, but we believe their career pathways will benefit from the experience of launching and growing a small enterprise!
